"Responding to Changes in Women's Health Over the Decades:
A holistic perspective on physical, social and emotional health."
Center Highlights:
The National Community Center of Excellence in Women's Health at Griffin (CCOE at Griffin) is a comprehensive healthcare program provided by Griffin Hospital, a not-for-profit community hospital located in Derby, Connecticut. Griffin Hospital is a member of the Planetree Alliance, a San Francisco based-organization with a strong belief in patient-focused care. Griffin is a very unique medium-sized community facility providing care for approximately 100,000 people who live in six towns, an area known as the Lower Naugatuck Valley. For more information, visit www.griffinhealth.org.
Griffin has a history of women-centered programs and facilities. Among these are the Childbirth Center, designed to offer family-centered maternity care, the Rapid Diagnostic Breast Center, established to ensure that no woman, regardless of age or socioeconomic status is denied screening mammograms or diagnostic testing for breast cancer, and the Valley Women' Health Initiative, a group comprised of members of the Valley Community working toward a common goal of addressing and improving health for Valley women.
"Griffin continues to offer a variety of programs for women including Stress Reduction and Meditation, Exercise and Diet, Mature Advantage, and menopause, heart health, bone, urinary, breast health, prenatal and parenting classes."
More recently, Griffin has established the Women's Health Coordination Center, designed to provide comprehensive care and seamless referrals for women to a network of community providers. The center is located across the street from the Griffin Hospital Emergency Department and houses the CCOE, the Valley Women's Health Access Program, the Yale Women's Health and Midwifery Practice, (which serves as the Clinical Care Center for the CCOE), and the Griffin Center for Health and Human Rights.
The mission of the National Community Center of Excellence in Women's Health at Griffin Hospital is to increase the wellbeing and health of Valley women and their families through education, training, coordination of services, and empowerment. The CCOE at Griffin will enhance services already provided through the Women's Health Coordination Center and the network of providers it has established. As such, this initiative will address the cultural and socioeconomic challenges to quality health care for underserved women. Under the program, Griffin Hospital will take the lead in coordinating comprehensive women's health services and programming for women in the Lower Naugatuck Valley, while contributing to the state-of-the-art in women's health regionally and nationally.
