Kokua Kalihi Valley Comprehensive Services
Honolulu, Hawaii
"An Agent of Healing and Reconciliation in the Kalihi Valley Community"
Center Highlights:
Kokua Kalihi Valley (KKV) is a community-organized and community-operated non-profit corporation with thirty years of experience in the direct delivery of primary health care to medically underserved individuals and families. KKV's full range of programs include dental, medical, behavioral health, prenatal, family planning, nutrition (WIC), immunization, STD–HIV testing and services, health education, social services, elderly and youth services, transportation, outreach, professional education, and community advocacy. The program is known locally as the Ohana Women's Health and Wellness Program. Ohana means family in the Hawaiian language. The new name is believed to be friendlier and more inviting to potential clients.
"As one of our 4 model women's health centers, Kokua Kalihi Valley Comprehensive Family Services will provide quality health care to women in the Honolulu area," Secretary Thompson said. "This program helps to ensure culturally appropriate care for the nation's most underserved citizens through integrated community-based care."
An internal task force has been established to facilitate communication and coordination between programs on the planning and implementation of Ohana Women's Health and Wellness program activities.
