Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) received designation as a National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health in 2003. This designation supports OHSU and the OHSU Center for Women's Health's expertise and continued commitment to perform with excellence in the following key components:
-
Clinical – The OHSU Center for Women’s Health (CWH) in the Physician’s Pavilion serves as the CoE Clinical Center. The Physician’s Pavilion site is a multi-disciplinary practice offering comprehensive health care to women of all ages. The CWH is recognized at OHSU as a progressive clinical site, which has moved beyond traditional in-patient/out-patient academic medical center models to becoming a patient centered, woman friendly environment addressing the multiple needs of women to maintain and improve their own health care.
-
Research – OHSU has broad research strength in women’s health in basic science, clinical and health services research.
-
Community Outreach – Our community outreach efforts focus on empowering women of all ages and stages of life to take on greater responsibility for nurturing their own health, and the health and well-being of their families.
-
Professional Education – OHSU is nationally recognized for its educational programs throughout the educational continuum: students, residents and practicing physicians. The goal of the Professional Education component is to develop culturally competent health care professional training/education program in women’s health, including prevention.
-
Leadership – The nurturing and advancement of women in academic medicine and improvement of the balance of representation of women at OHSU are the primary areas of focus for the Leadership component.
-
Evaluation – Our aim is to assist the other CoE components to evaluate outcome measures and to seek funding and/or assistance for activities that integrate areas.
